Northwestern University The Canning Thoracic Institute at Northwestern Medicine, in conjunction with the Department of Surgery at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, seeks an exceptional board-certified/board-eligible thoracic surgeon to join our growing academic team. This is a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor on a non-tenure eligible track, commensurate with experience and academic achievement. The Assistant or Associate Professor will be joining a program celebrated for its pioneering approach and impressive outcomes, overseeing more than 100 transplants annually. New graduates who are interested in general thoracic surgery and lung transplant are encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates must have a strong clinical background experience and have completed an ACGME-accredited Thoracic Surgery fellowship/residency program, and are board-eligible or board certified in Thoracic Surgery. Thoracic surgeons in this position will participate in academic programs of the Feinberg School of Medicine, including educational programs (didactic teaching, resident training, preceptorship, and mentoring) or research programs.
Position Highlights
Provide comprehensive thoracic surgical care as part of a high-volume, multidisciplinary academic program with a regional and national referral base. Engage in innovative clinical programs, translational research, and multidisciplinary care models aligned with the Institute’s mission to redefine care for patients with complex thoracic conditions. Opportunities exist to collaborate with premier programs in lung transplantation, advanced thoracic oncology, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and lung failure/ECMO. Serve as a key member of a collaborative faculty group within an institution committed to excellence in clinical care, research, education, and innovation.
Qualifications
Medical degree (MD or MD/PhD) with board certification or eligibility in Thoracic Surgery. Completion of an accredited thoracic surgery residency or fellowship. Strong clinical skills and a commitment to academic advancement through clinical innovation, research, or education. Eligibility for licensure in the state of Illinois. A track record of professionalism, collaboration, and dedication to excellence in patient care.
Preferred Attributes
Interest in contributing to clinical program development, resident and fellow education, and academic scholarship. Experience with robotic thoracic surgery, complex foregut, or minimally invasive thoracic procedures is desirable but not required
