Evaluates performance results and recommends major changes affecting short-term project growth and success. Functions as a technical expert across multiple project assignments. May supervise others.
BAE Systems is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) High Performance Computing (HPC) Modernization Program (DoD HPCMP) and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) DoD Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC) located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
The position maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network engineers. Duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery to existing HPC systems. Develops and monitors policies and standards related to the use of HPC resources. Participates in technical forums; and represents our company in joint meetings with the customer on HPC technical topics.
A successful candidate should be customer service oriented, attentive to detail, self-motivated, and work well in teams. Flexibility in approach to finding solutions, the ability to understand and act on customer needs and priorities, and learn new technologies quickly are essential. You will also need to be willing to respond to occasional off-hours outages and take part in subsequent service restoration efforts.
The selected system administrator will work with a team of engineers to review and define configurations, create automation scripts to deploy and configure network assets, review and deploy software applications, and provide support for testing, demonstration, and technical interchange meetings, including troubleshooting, patching, hardening, and configuration management.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills: Experience and familiarity with the following: Puppet Unix and ability to create/maintain scripts. VMware Computer & System Certificates STIG Compliance Kickstart DoD 8570 IAT II (or better) Certification (i.e. Security+) OS Software Certification (i.e. Linux+)
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills: Networking Experience Ovirt Slurm PBS Zabbix Radix/eMASS (or similar scanning tools) Archival Storage Systems HPE Amanda Backup Software
