Senior Systems Engineer
plays a critical role within our Managed Security and IT Services segment, supporting small and medium-sized businesses across manufacturing, small medical, professional services, hospitality, and non-profit, trucking and logistics, and other industries. This position requires advanced technical expertise in Microsoft-centric environments, a passion for client success and service, and an ability to mentor other team members.
The
Senior Systems Engineer
will act as an escalation point for complex issues, lead technology implementations, identify opportunities for technology and security improvements, and ensure operational excellence within client environments spanning on-premises infrastructure, Microsoft 365, Azure, and Entra. Responsibilities
Provide advanced support for client environments primarily leveraging Microsoft technologies, including on-premises servers, Azure, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 platforms Serve as a final escalation point for technical issues beyond Level 1, 2, and 3 technician capabilities Proactively manage and optimize client technology solutions for performance and reliability Mentor and assist in developing other service technicians to improve technical skills and troubleshooting methodologies Actively engage with clients and end users to provide guidance, strategic advice, and best practices for technology and security maturity Lead and assist in IT project implementations, migrations, and infrastructure improvements, including: Hyper-V and VMware virtualization platforms, SAN storage solutions, Cisco Meraki networking, HPE Aruba switching, and Fortinet FortiGate firewalls Perform and support on-premises to Microsoft 365 migrations and Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 migrations. Identify opportunities for automation, security improvements, and operational efficiency within client environments and within the service delivery team Utilize the ConnectWise suite (PSA, Automate, ScreenConnect) for service management, remote monitoring, and client support Maintain and enforce IT policies, procedures, and security standards aligned with best practices Participate in client technology strategy meetings and roadmapping initiatives Stay current with emerging technologies and cybersecurity trends applicable to small and medium business environments Design, architect, and propose IT business solutions Visit client sites as needed to provide support, assessments, and consulting Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep expertise in Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Windows Server, SQL, and Active Directory environments Strong understanding of virtualization technologies (Hyper-V, VMware) and storage solutions Advanced networking knowledge including Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, VLANs, VPNs, and Fortinet FortiGate firewalls Experience with Duo MFA, endpoint security, backup and disaster recovery, and IT security best practices Effective leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively Proactive, results-driven mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively Requirements Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field 5+ years of systems engineering or advanced IT support experience within an MSP or MSSP environment. Proven experience with Microsoft cloud and on-prem technologies. Experience performing on-prem to Microsoft 365 migrations and Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 migrations is a plus Microsoft (AZ-104, MS-102, SC-200, SC-300) certification preferred VMware VCP preferred Cisco Meraki CMNA or CCNA preferred Fortinet NSE 4+ preferred Ability to travel to client sites as needed.
