BASIC FUNCTIONS: The purpose of this position is to provide pedagogical, administrative, and research training and support for a Research Fellow in the School or College through including, but not limited to (a) academic career development, (b) development of health services to underserved populations, (c) cultural competence. The Neuropsychopharmacology Laboratory at Howard University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with data science expertise, interested in health disparities research. This work will contribute to precision medicine approaches to brain health. There is opportunity for collaboration with computer engineering, geneticists, and clinician colleagues. The ideal candidate will identify new research questions associated with brain health and disease, as it relates to the unique circumstances of underserved populations. The postdoc will be involved in enhancing the direction of clinical translational research conducted in the laboratory and will be expected to distribute their work to the scientific community through presentations and print. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Develop predictive tools to characterize clinical phenotypes and explore analytics associated with genetics of addiction and neuropsychiatric disorders. Utilize large databases and electronic medical records to investigate social determinants of health and ethnicity-driven moderations of risk alleles for neuropsychiatric and substance use disorders. Conduct research to understand brain function and also develop computational frameworks to analyze brain imaging data and to correlate findings with incidence of risk alleles for addiction and psychiatric disease. Coordinates and assure development of pertinent reports and their timely delivery. Participates in grant writing, development of manuscripts and reports, and conduct of primary and secondary data analyses. Participates in weekly and/or bi-weekly group meetings, and professional training with or without students. CORE COMPETENCIES: Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented interdisciplinary healthcare environment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Applicants should have received, by the activation date of the postdoctoral fellowship, a Ph.D. (or similar doctoral degree such as MD, Pharm.D., Sc.D., DrPH, etc.) in one of the following disciplines: Neuroscience or data science related field. Compliance Salary Range Disclosure Expected Pay Range: $60,000- $70,000
