The PACS Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the PACS equipment, including image workflow, archive and prefetch maintenance, end user support, and acting as the interface or liaison to radiology and IT, as well as various PACS and imaging-related vendors. The position requires related IT experience with servers, workstations, and networks, as well as a clear understanding of and experience with radiology and clinical environments. The position works closely with department managers, supervisors, radiologists, and technologists to ensure proper, safe, and compliant operation of the DICOM imaging workflow throughout the enterprise.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Configurations, system security, including anti-virus updates and application of preventative maintenance updates, ensuring network security from unauthorized access.
Ensure the seamless transfer of DICOM images from modalities to the PACS system, remote reading/processing stations, and storage within the database for archive.
Oversee the functionality of the internal PACS system and all associated networks.
Perform regular inspections to ensure all equipment is well maintained, up to date, operating in a safe work environment, and in compliance with HIPAA and internal rules/policies, including keeping updated and secure records.
Manage and coordinate activities requiring intra-departmental efforts between IT, radiology, and/or PACS and imaging vendors.
Work closely with radiologists, physicians, technologists, IT staff, and other healthcare professionals to effectively communicate PACS system performance, issues, and updates.
Collaborate with the IT infrastructure team to ensure seamless integration of PACS with other clinical platforms.
Proactively identify and resolve PACS-related issues to minimize disruption to clinical workflows.
Build and manage new and existing networking PACS configurations for new Teleradiology partners.
Analyze system performance data to identify areas for improvement.
Implement solutions to enhance system efficiency, reliability, and user satisfaction.
Perform PACS-related training and introductions for new and existing users.
Add and remove users from the system.
Provide end-user PACS application support.
Manage study administration, including mismatch corrections, merges, or splits.
Setup and configure PACS applications on end-user laptops or workstations.
Perform initial troubleshooting of the system and network if problems occur.
Provide periodic reports to the Radiology Director on the system's status.
Propose system additions and improvements.
Participate in installations, updates, or system refreshes as needed and within budget.
Qualifications:
Associates degree (Bachelors preferred) in IT or related discipline with at least 5 years of related PACS experience.
At least 3 years of leadership experience managing an on-premise PACS system, with a strong understanding of DICOM and HL-7 as they apply to radiology workflows, and experience with HIPAA.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
