Summary: Looking for a UI Developer to join Ignition Tax Product, software engineering group responsible for building tools that enable teams of global accountants to perform complex tax and financial services for some of the world’s largest companies. As a member of the UI/UX Design team, the UI Developer works within a product development team to translate the design team’s mockups into a working user interface. While in this role, the UX Engineer is focused on the implementation of design, while adhering strongly to CSS best practices, accessibility, interaction design, usability, and scalable frontend architecture - taking a lead on entire user interface while collaborating with backend and full-stack developers to integrate business logic, services, and data sources. Our ideal UI Developer is a cross-functional developer who is as excited by design as they are by the latest UI development techniques. They must possess the ability to build robust, aesthetic, and accessible interfaces without using third-party CSS libraries. We look for highly communicative team players who will advocate for the user within development teams in order to build meaningful user experiences. What you’ll be doing: Take ownership of the UI across the app you are working on to ensure a consistent and refined user experience. Develop web UIs with a strong focus on front-of-the-frontend best practices - including layout, interactions, and accessibility. Work within an agile team of backend and full stack engineers to integrate UI code with business logic, services, and data sources. Advocate for the user and articulate design principles to the development team. Convert Sketch/Figma prototypes into UI code and ensure technical feasibility. Collaborate with UX designers, contribute to design decisions, and identify gaps. Utilize and contribute to the Tax Design System - an in-house design system of UI components and patterns. Refactor and optimize existing UIs. Required Skills: Minimum 5 years' experience as a UI developer or hybrid designer/developer. Deep knowledge of CSS, flexbox and grid layout, and cutting-edge CSS techniques. Confidence in writing CSS without third party UI libraries like Bootstrap and Tailwind. Strong understanding of HTML, semantics, and accessibility. Cross-functional creative and technical skillset to think like a designer and a developer. Knowledge of HCI principles and how to incorporate them into day-to-day development. Strong written and verbal communications skills. Experience with large-scale enterprise applications is a plus. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Design, or equivalent degree or experience required.
