Job Overview: The Commissioning Superintendent provides input and technical expertise for utility-scale solar construction projects. Responsibilities include supporting engineering review, procurement (if necessary), construction, and start-up of high or medium voltage electrical systems and associated substations. The role involves on-site supervision of Field Engineers and General Foremen to ensure safety, productivity, quality, and cost control. Scheduling labor, materials, tools, equipment, and subcontractors efficiently, and ensuring adherence to specifications and contract requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Supervise and direct General Foremen, Field Engineers, and Foremen to optimize resource use and ensure compliance with policies and regulations. Provide coaching and feedback.
Schedule equipment, materials, tools, and subcontractors to maximize productivity and minimize costs, collaborating with other projects for resource sharing.
Train staff and implement standardized Work Plans, supporting process improvements.
Act as an electrical consultant for circuits, power quality, switchgear, transmission, interconnect systems, and high voltage systems. Participate in meetings with engineers, subcontractors, and utility personnel. Supervise electrical subcontractors to ensure effective resource use.
Ensure safety procedures and compliance with safety regulations, managing employee training on safety practices.
Communicate project status, issues, and resource planning with the Site Manager and other supervisors.
Assist in negotiations with the owner on major project decisions.
Maintain a professional environment and foster collaboration among craft workers, subcontractors, vendors, and the owner.
Monitor project costs against estimates, reporting overruns to the Site Manager.
Verify project activities conform to the Project Quality Plan and communicate craftsmanship expectations.
Mentor team members on work discipline, costs, scope, quality, and safety.
Identify potential change orders and inform the Site Manager.
Understand site conditions and, when necessary, act as project leader in the Site Manager’s absence.
Participate in RFI development and technical accuracy.
Support economic initiatives such as local hiring and community engagement.
Manage crew and equipment matrices, updating operational analyses.
Support estimating and business development efforts, including site visits and community liaison activities.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR.
Ability to supervise multiple employees.
Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment limitations.
Strong communication skills.
Understanding of job costing.
Relocation to the project site community required.
Possibility to obtain a qualified individual status or electrician licenses.
Ability to read prints and contract documents.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state codes.

Competitive salary: $110,000 - $150,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
