Overview
A Mechanical and Product engineer focuses on Design, Development and Validation of automotive interior/exterior and mechanism products.
Key Responsibilities System Design and Optimization: Designing and optimizing automotive interior/exterior product and mechanical systems. Initiate, track, and maintain engineering discipline documents (DFMEA, FEA, DVP&R, EBOM). Utilize lessons learned and continuous improvement activities to ensure robust designs. Support various team disciplines (PFMEA, APQP, DFA, DFM, DFE, LPMP, PDM, DFSS, etc.). Provide launch support, including onsite at IAC and customer manufacturing locations. Simulation and Analysis: Performing simulations to predict and analyze the behavior of moving parts, including kinematic, stress, thermal, and vibration assessments. Integration and Collaboration: Working with other engineers and teams to integrate motion-related aspects into larger systems. Testing and Validation: Conducting tests to validate the performance of interior and kinematic systems and ensure they meet design specifications. Documentation and Communication: Creating technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports, and effectively communicating design choices and challenges. Skills and Qualifications
Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles: Understanding statics, dynamics, kinematics, and mechanics of materials. GD&T and gage principles knowledge. Providing input to development of efficient process and assembly solutions. Proficiency in relevant software: CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, NX), simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, ADAMS), and programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB). Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills: Ability to analyze complex motion problems, identify potential issues, and develop innovative solutions. Strong communication and teamwork skills: Effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams and clearly communicating technical information to stakeholders. Attention to detail: Ensuring accuracy in design, analysis, and documentation. Experience with relevant standards and regulations: Understanding industry-specific standards for safety, performance, and documentation 10-15+ years of experience in Kinematic Engineering/Design/Mechanical Design Engineering Ability to calculate joint angles and positions to achieve desired movements, an understanding of kinematic equations, their applications, and how to apply to automotive interiors. CATIA and/or Unigraphics experience Ability to work in a team environment Willing to work on other products/challenges during periods of downtime between projects. Experience with the following product types:
Movable Storage Bins Push-Push Mechanisms Latches/Locks/Dual Pawl Latches Inertia Locks Tambour Doors Sliding Armrests A/C Outlets Console Armrest Hinges Complex Assemblies and Mechanisms
