Maxar is seeking a highly skilled and experienced backend software developer to join our dynamic engineering team. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, highly available, and resilient backend services that power our event-driven cloud applications. Responsibilities: Design, develop, and implement robust and scalable backend services using Java and Python. Build and maintain event-driven micro services architecture leveraging Apache Kafka and JVM for asynchronous data flows. Orchestrate and manage containerized applications using Kubernetes, with hands on experience in Rancher for cluster management and deployment. Collaborate with multi-contractor teams to deploy and develop new features and functionalities. Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability in a cloud environment. Implement and enforce best practices for application security, data protection, and compliance. Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers. Trouble shoot and resolve complex issues across distributed systems and cloud deployments. Document technical designs, APIs, and operational procedures. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Active TS/SCI clearance. 5 years of experience in backend software development. Strong proficiency in Java with experience in building scalable and performant backend applications (e.g. Spring Boot and JVM). Solid experience in Python for backend development scripting and automation. Deep understanding and hands-on experience with Apache Kafka for building event-driven architectures, including producers, consumers, topics, and scheme management. Extensive experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration, including deploying, managing, and scaling applications. Proven experience with Rancher for Kubernetes cluster management, monitoring, and multi-cluster deployments. Experience designing and implementing event-driven cloud applications and microservices. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Openstack, OpenShift) and their relevant services. Excellent problem solving and debugging skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams. Experience in agile scrum development methodologies. Preferred Skills: Experience with NIFI. Experience with data lakes and/or data catalogues. Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible. Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack. Understanding of distributed tracing and observability concepts. Experience with Atlassian tools. In support of pay transparency at Maxar, we disclose salary ranges on all U.S. job postings. The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range. The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $108,000.00 - $180,000.00 annually. For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
