Distribution Designer

Overview
Our client is looking for a Distribution Designer to support the development of construction work packages for electric distribution systems in overhead (OH), underground (UG), or underground residential distribution (URD) environments. The role involves working with various engineering software and requires strong attention to detail and communication skills.
Responsibilities
Develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (4kV-35kV) Use GIS, CAD, WMS, and other client systems for project development Perform engineering calculations including pole structural analysis, guying, cable pulling, fault currents, and protection coordination Support joint use, street lighting, and programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspections, and maintenance Prepare forestry trimming requests and support permit and Right-of-Way acquisition Develop bill of materials (BOM) and cost estimates Interface with customers for easements and Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC) calculations Ensure compliance with project scope, schedule, budget, quality control, and safe work practices Requirements
AS degree preferred; equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree Experience performing design work with a utility Familiarity with Pole Loading software such as O-Calc, SPIDA Calc, or Pole Foreman Experience using SAP Strong verbal and written communication skills Background in medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion, and distribution automation projects Experience developing civil and electrical packages for complex cable/conduit in dense urban settings
