Job Summary:
Supports the health and well-being of students within a school environment. Their primary responsibilities include assisting the School Nurse with health-related tasks, providing basic first aid, administering medications as prescribed, and maintaining student health records. They also monitor students for signs of illness or injury, ensure that health supplies are stocked and assist in managing health related emergencies. Additionally, Health Aides often communicate with parents and teachers about students' health concerns, helping to promote a safe and healthy learning environment.
Qualifications and Requirements: High School, diploma or equivalent. Certification as a Medical Assistant (MA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN), or Licensed Practical Nurse )LPN is preferred. Current certification in BLS. Must have knowledge and ability to use office machines and health equipment as required. Maintain current TB testing as required by Health Department regulations (after employment offer is made) Performance Responsibilities:
Assist School Nurse with evaluating and caring for injuries; document all actions taken in the health room and make appropriate reports as directed by the School Nurse to remain in compliance. Assist School Nurse to maintain school health records, document screening results, referral status, immunization records and health assessments to ensure all activities conform to state and district guidelines. Assist School Nurse with auditing immunization records and notifies parents of need to update immunizations. Assist School Nurse with making inquiries to staff concerning the need for periodic student assessments and screenings: vision, hearing, etc. to meet the needs of students. Assist School Nurse with notification of parents of the need for medical referrals and follow up on them so that all students receive the proper care. Assist School Nurse with students who do not pass initial screening. Assist with monitoring communicable diseases and inform parents and staff of procedures to ensure the safety of staff and students. Complete delegation process prior to administering medications or provide health related treatments. Ensure documentation of medication and maintain, dispense and secure all student medication according to policy for medication administration to remain in compliance. Ensure health room has first aide and health supplies and inform School Nurse weekly of any needed supplies; check AED weekly and working order of equipment, and request repairs as needed to support district staff Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information in order to remain in compliance with legal requirements and to maintain a professional work environment. Perform other duties ass assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
