We are looking for a **Vice President, Plant Manager** to join our Executive Team and lead our Sheridan, IN facility. As the VP, Plant Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant operations, including production, quality, safety, engineering, buildings & grounds, and continuous improvement. You will coordinate the plant’s manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with company objectives, quality systems, and customer expectations. You will also work closely with other senior leaders to develop and execute the strategic vision and goals of the company.
To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications and skills:
A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus. At least 7+ years of proven skills in leadership and supervision in plant management and engineering, preferably in the precision machining industry. A demonstrated understanding of lean manufacturing principles and practices, such as 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, TPM, etc. Ability to apply lean manufacturing principles in designing, specifying, and validating world-class manufacturing processes that achieve organizational goals.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
Plan and coordinate manufacturing operations for production, machinery, processing, and shipping departments. Ensure that production schedules are following facility capabilities, customer requirements, and financial planning. Manage materials replenishment, quality standards, and performance metrics in support of organizational goals and objectives. Investigate and implement innovative manufacturing processes to reduce costs and improve product quality. Manage cost structures for manufacturing by keeping operational expenses within budget allowance according to company policy, and investigate cost-reduction measures. Create documentation protocols and ensure that all records of operations are properly maintained and reviewed

Training Timeline
Basic Navigation & Familiarization 1-2 weeks

Corporate HR is responsible for following up on all onboarding timelines with person identified as trainer and record completion in Paylocity at the following intervals: 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months & 6 months. At each of these intervals, the COO & CEO are notified and referred to Paylocity for details.
Solid Line Responsibilities
As the solid line manager, you are the primary supervisor for the following positions: Sr. Millturn/Swiss Manager, HR Coordinator, Facility/Maintenance Manager, Grinding Manager, Heat Treat Manager, Plating Manager, Materials & Shipping Manager, Production Planner, Customer Service.
As solid line manager, the VP, Plant Manager is responsible for the following:
Performance Reviews - The lead on evaluating overall performance, setting goals, and conducting formal performance appraisals, with input and participation from the dotted line manager.
Career Development - Responsible for the long term growth, including mentoring, providing training opportunities, and planning the employees career path within the organization.
Workload Management - Ensuring workload is manageable and align task with their skills, priorities and development goals.
Compensation & Promotions - Decisions around salary adjustments, bonuses and promotions rest with VP, Plant Manager as the solid line manager, only after conferring with the dotted line manager.
Conflict Resolution - if there are conflicts involving the dotted line manager or other team members, the VP, Plant Manager steps in to mediate and resolve,
Responsibilities
The VP, Plant Manager has the following solid line direct reports who have the support of a Subject Matter Expert with dotted line responsibilities. These are:
Materials & Shipping Manager - has dotted line to Corporate Purchasing & Supply Chain Manager.
Production Planner & Customer Service Planner- have dotted line to Corporate Master Scheduler
HR Coordinator – has dotted line to Corporate HR
Dotted Line Responsibilities
The dotted line manager has a collaborative and project-based relationship with the employee. Their responsibilities include:
Project Oversight - Guide the employee on specific projects or tasks. Providing expertise, direction and feedback relevant to their area of focus,
Technical or Functional Input - They are the subject matter expert and provide detailed insights and resources to help the employee succeed in their domain.
Cross-Functional Collaboration - Acts as a bridge between teams or departments, ensuring that they are contributing effectively to broader organizational goals.
Performance Feedback - Participate in formal reviews, input on performance is shared with the solid line manager.
Prioritization Within Their Scope - Help align their work to the specific goals or needs of the project or team they oversee.
Key Challenges to Balance
Alignment - it’s critical both managers collaborate and align on expectations so the employee is not caught in the middle of conflicting priorities.
Feedback Sharing - The dotted line manager needs a clear process to provide input to the solid line manager, ensuring their observations are considered. This will be accomplished through a Huddle scheduled at least once a week.
Boundaries- Each manager should respect the other’s responsibilities to avoid overstepping or creating confusion.
