Responsibilities include instrumenting the software development lifecycle (SDLC) to measure engineers' speed, quality, and enjoyment; adopting a product-centric approach to improve backend engineering effectiveness through new tools and methodologies; guiding organizational adoption of solutions and sunsetting legacy systems; cultivating a trusting and challenging team culture; and collaborating with other leaders and stakeholders to set the long-term vision for the software development journey at Mercury. Desired traits include passion for enabling engineers, receptiveness to feedback, ability to navigate ambiguous problems, and hands-on development experience. Required experience includes managing developer tooling or building products for developers, 4+ years managing software engineering teams (remote experience a plus), and 3+ years as a software engineer (Haskell or functional language experience a plus).
