This faculty position offers the unique opportunity to shape clinical care, advance research, and mentor the next generation of neonatologists while working with a world-class multidisciplinary team. This role is appropriate for all ranks as it offers both leadership opportunities and robust support. The faculty member will contribute to the clinical, research, and teaching missions of the Division of Neonatology and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta with clinical coverage in the NICU and participation in student, resident, and fellow education. Key clinical responsibilities include: Lead clinical care and quality improvement initiatives for infants with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions Oversee therapeutic hypothermia protocols and neuroprotective strategies for approximately 50 HIE cases annually Provide clinical coverage across our three NICUs with state-of-the-art neuroimaging and monitoring capabilities Collaborate extensively with pediatric neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, and rehabilitation specialists Additional expectations include: Contributing to our robust education mission by teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers, particularly in areas related to neonatal neurology Actively engaging in research opportunities focused on neuroprotection and neonatal brain injury Qualified candidates must have an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent and must be board-certified/board-eligible in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Additional fellowship training or significant experience in neonatal neurology is preferred but not required. Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to neuroprotection and management of neonatal brain injury. Salary and professional level of appointment will be commensurate with experience. Candidates should have a history of academic excellence/achievement, and will be expected to work in a collaborative fashion both within the Division of Neonatology and with other members of the neonatal neurocritical care team. The Division of Neonatology is a large and diverse group with more than 75 faculty, advanced practice providers, clinical fellows, and administrative staff. Our division is committed to providing outstanding clinical care at our three Emory-affiliated hospitals: Grady Memorial Hospital, Emory Midtown and Arthur M. Blank Hospital. Our high risk Developmental Progress Clinic serves outpatients from each of these facilities as well as other regional institutions. Each year our inpatient facilities provide the setting for more than 9,000 deliveries and more than 1,500 admissions to our intensive care units. We are a regional referral center for complex neurological conditions throughout the state of Georgia. Among our large referral center facilities, we annually care for a large number of infants with neurologic and neurosurgical conditions including hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, seizures, intraventricular hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, stroke, and vein of Galen malformations. Additionally, we see more than 1,200 patients each year in our high-risk follow-up clinics. The clinical care we provide is enhanced by our attention to two other important missions, education and research. Education is the impetus that drives successful academic goals, and to this end, we teach and mentor a variety of trainees, including medical students, residents, neonatal fellows, and students in our neonatal nurse practitioner program. The discovery of new knowledge through research is the means by which our care continually improves. Our research allows us to better understand the basic foundations of biological processes and translate these findings to improvement in patient care. Employment will be in the Emory + Children's Pediatric Institute with a faculty appointment in Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. The Emory + Children's Pediatric Institute is an affiliation between Emory University and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta that is improving the lives of children in Georgia and beyond. This partnership, The Emory + Children's Pediatric Institute, combines the unique strengths and resources of each institution in support of our three-part academic missions of providing outstanding clinical care, conducting innovative basic science discovery and clinical research, and coordinating exceptional education of the future healthcare workforce.
