This is a twelve (12) month, full-time, non-tenure earning clinical educator position. Salary is negotiable and based on experience and qualifications.
The selected candidate will serve as the Regional Medical Director for the Child Abuse Pediatrics program, covering both Hillsborough and Polk Counties. This position is specifically designed to provide direct consultation and coordination with other physicians and healthcare workers in the evaluation and management of suspected cases of child maltreatment/abuse. The position includes both outpatient care and inpatient consultative services and provides clinical supervision to those providing medical care. The program works closely with multiple community agencies, including DCF and law enforcement. Currently, there is one USF pediatrician as part of the USF Child Abuse Program (CAP), who is also the Statewide Medical Director. The USF Child Abuse Program provides inpatient services, primarily at Tampa General Hospital, the teaching hospital for USF Morsani College of Medicine, as well as some community hospitals. Tampa General Hospital has an ACS certified Pediatric Trauma Program, and the USF Child Abuse program collaborates with the trauma team for clinical care, education and research.
The USF Child Abuse Program provides outpatient services through the community Child Advocacy Center at Mary Lee's House, located in Tampa, and medical director coverage for the Children's Home Society in Polk County. Both locations include a team of nurse practitioners, case coordinators, a team supervisor and psychology support.
Responsibilities
The position includes both outpatient care and inpatient consultative services. Clinical duties include call coverage per the Child Protection Team call schedule. The position is based out of Mary Lee's House in Tampa, FL but regular travel to surrounding counties is required. Outpatient care and inpatient consultative care is provided by medical staff within the CAP program. This position provides supervision-oversight to those providing direct clinical coverage. Patient volume ranges from 1200-1500 in Hillsborough and 800-1000 in Polk County. The Regional Medical Director will work with the Department of Children and Families and Law Enforcement (Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough and Polk Counties) in their investigations of alleged abuse. He/she will provide recommendations and serve as a subject matter expert for community health providers, in court, on committees, and other community providers or outreach events. He/she will follow the Florida Department of Health Child Protection Team Handbook related to overall program deliverables and operations. Research Duties: Collaborative effort within the Department and the University will be encouraged. Teaching Duties: The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to departmental teaching programs involving residents, medical students, and house staff. He/she will participate in the preparation/organization of new educational programs as well as participation in the university/college assigned committees. The individual will be expected to effectively utilize his/her clinical practice as a teaching resource. Both students and residents will attend the outpatient clinics. This position will be expected to lead efforts to establish a child abuse fellowship program in the department. Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university. Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities. Responsible for academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM:
Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate, or Full Professor. Board Certified in Pediatrics, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine with prior experience working in Child Abuse Pediatrics with demonstrated expertise in managing child abuse and neglect cases Eligible for full medical license in Florida. Fellowship training in Child Abuse Pediatrics is preferred, but not required.
