The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites nominations and applications for a Part-Time Technologist C, Dean's Office.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Technician Coordinator of the School of Art and Design, the Part-Time Technologist C ensures standard safety regulations are followed in the Spatial Experience Design fabrication studio and related areas, and to enforce established safety practices for the use of workstations.
Responsibilities: Maintain inventory of all tools and equipment in the fabrication studio, research and recommend new and replacement tools, and place work orders for approved equipment and supplies. Inspect and maintain equipment and machinery. Maintain department studios and shops to ensure optimal functionality. Maintain a working knowledge of current safety and compliance standards and practices. Work with the department of Environmental Health and Safety to ensure that hazardous chemicals and fumes are properly handled, and maintain a current Safety Data Sheet for chemicals and hazardous materials. Assist students with the proper use of equipment and materials in accordance with safety requirements. Oversee open labs to ensure that students operate equipment safely and follow best practices. Assist with graduating student exhibitions, including the operation of a scissor lift for installation of 2D and 3D works.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree. Three years' experience in a wood working studio. Experienced with installation of exhibitions.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Certificate of Fitness (COF) certification, certifying the ability to safely use, store and handle dangerous materials in the workplace. Experience in use of CNC machines. Experience with metal shop such as welding and torching.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Ability to solve problems, work independently, and excel in a high-performance, team-orientated culture. Conscientious, self-motivated, resourceful, flexible, and punctual. Ability to communicate effectively, remain organized, and precisely follow instructions under pressure. Professional demeanor and experience in cultivating effective and collaborative working relationships. Knowledge of basic health and safety protocols and policies. Excellent written and verbal communications skills; strong interpersonal skills with both faculty and student populations; superior organization, prioritization, self-motivation, and problem resolution skills.

Salary
Salary: $39.17 per hour
The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Rate: $39.17 per hour with step increments per Salary Schedule 91, after 18 months of service and annually thereafter.
Work Schedule
Days/Hours: M-F, 32 weeks per year, 20 hours per week, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The working conditions for this position will be any combination of an office, classroom, lab, or loading dock. This position may be exposed to noise levels above average, exposed to chemicals and machinery, perform work in a confined space, drive motor equipment, may be exposed to health hazards, exposed to equipment requiring specialized training, in an enclosed vehicle, and may be required to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shows, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and/or hard hats. The physical requirement for this position will require occasional sitting, frequent standing, bending, and walking, occasional climbing, frequent pulling, pushing, and reaching, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
