Overview
The Facilities Maintenance Technician (FMT) at Lili'uokalani Center supports the Facilities Maintenance Manager in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the Liliuokalani Center's buildings, grounds, and equipment. The FMT plays a key role in ensuring a welcoming and child-centered environment for kamali'i, families, staff, and guests by performing routine maintenance, assisting with repairs, and supporting event setups and facility operations.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC support.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and repairs of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
- Monitor and report facility issues or safety hazards to the Facilities Maintenance Manager. Respond to maintenance-related emergencies as needed, including after-hours support.
- Participate in facility inspections and help ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
- Support setup and breakdown of events and activities hosted at the Center.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs, including preventative maintenance schedules, inspections, and equipment inventory.
- Ability to communicate effectively with building occupants, management, and vendors.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas and storage.
- Help ensure the security of the facility by supporting opening/closing procedures and reporting suspicious activity.
- Take on special facility-related and construction projects as assigned by Facilities Maintenance Manager or Facilities Director as assigned
- Contribute to the success of the team by being flexible, collaborative, and proactive in learning new skills.
- Provide transportation support for staff, youth, and families as needed for official business.
- Participate in professional development, training, and team-building initiatives.
- Support broader Trust and LC efforts by contributing to cross-functional projects and new initiatives.
- Be available for flexible scheduling to support events and strategic needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Other duties as assigned by Facilities Maintenance Manager or Director of Facilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Hawai'i driver's license and clean driving record.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in facilities maintenance or related field. Construction experience preferred.
- Ability to interpret and understand architectural and engineering plans
- Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, IT, Plumbing, Electrical, Lighting, Etc.)
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trades required.
- Ability to diagnose issues and determine effective solutions.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Experience operating 2-way radios and basic facility communication systems.
- Comfortable working with computers, mobile devices, and apps used for task tracking and reporting.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
- Experience working with youth or in youth-centered environments preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor for extended periods.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.

Lili'uokalani Center (LC):
Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new Lili'uokalani Center will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT's signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy.
Travel Requirements:
In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau i ka `imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization. While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position in order to successfully contribute to our concerted efforts to carry out our Queen's legacy.
