Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant
General Description:
Under the direction of a Certified Occupational Therapist, provides specialized occupational therapy services for eligible school students. Responsible for assisting with the screening, assessment, planning, goal development, and providing appropriate intervention services. Particular areas of emphasis include fine motor skills, sensory/perceptual motor skills, and self-care skills.

equirements: Must possess an Associate's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Must possess or be eligible for a valid license to meet state requirements as set forth by the Virginia Board of Medicine. Knowledge of medical and/or pediatric information and indications for occupational therapy services. Experience as an occupational therapist assistant preferred. Experience with pediatric occupational therapy preferred.

Essential Job Functions: Assists in identifying students who need an evaluation and/or occupational therapy services. Performs formal observations of students to provide information regarding student strengths and weaknesses. Determines educational implications of evaluation findings. Screens and evaluates students upon referral to determine if therapy is needed in the educational setting. Chooses activities to improve student performance in the skill areas necessary for accessing the curriculum, learning, and functioning within the school environment. Maintains documentation of students receiving services. Works collaboratively with school staff, parents, and other providers to determine IEP objectives, frequency of intervention, implement objectives, evaluate progress, and determine appropriate time to discontinue services. Suggests modifications to the physical environment of the educational setting when appropriate. Assists with modifications of school tasks and activities to accommodate the needs of students. Collaborates with and provides information to classroom teachers concerning the student's needs. Maintains effective communication with parents regarding their child's therapy as appropriate. Maintains an effective system of monitoring student progress and informs appropriate persons of such progress. Submits records, reports, assessments, and other assignments promptly and efficiently. Participates in activities that promote professional development and use of clinical/educational research to enhance direct services. Perform other duties as assigned.
