The School Accompanist supports the vocal music program by providing high-quality piano accompaniment for choir rehearsals, performances, and events. The ideal candidate is a skilled pianist with the flexibility to support both in-school and after-school commitments, including the demands of competitive show choir season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide piano accompaniment for daily choir rehearsals across multiple ensemble levels (e.g., beginning, intermediate, advanced, and show choir groups).
- Accompany soloists, small groups, and full ensembles during concerts, festivals, auditions, assessments, and other school-sanctioned performances.
- Attend and accompany all after-school rehearsals as scheduled, including tech weeks, dress rehearsals, and sectional work.
- Serve as accompanist during show choir season, including competitions, weekend travel (as needed), and choreography rehearsals.
- Collaborate closely with choral directors to understand rehearsal objectives, repertoire, and performance expectations.
- Work with Coordinator of Performing Arts to pllan tuning schedule for all major pianos in the performing arts department
- Assist with music preparation, including marking scores, providing tempo cues, etc.
- Support the musical aspects of any school musicals or interdisciplinary performing arts events as assigned.
- Proficiency in piano performance with strong sight-reading skills.
- Experience accompanying vocalists and large ensembles.
- Ability to adapt to a variety of musical styles (classical, contemporary, pop, musical theatre, etc.).
- Punctuality, professionalism, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with music staff, students, and families.
