Hiring Rate: $17.14/hour
Sunday- Saturday, various shifts
12 hours per week/4-hour shifts including 1 evening
Saturdays required.

Definition:
Sorts and shelves all library materials; checks in returned items; maintains shelves in call number
order.
Principal Duties:
•Attend meetings and trainings as required.
•Check in items correctly with check in computer or automated materials handler.
•Empty book drops.
•Maintains the appearance of the collection by straightening materials on the
shelves, picking up and re-shelving materials left by patrons, and prepares library
for opening and closing.
•Read and respond to emails from staff and patrons.
•"Reads" shelves for accuracy by checking to be certain that materials are on the
shelf in call number order. Shelving or shifting materials as necessary in order to
maintain the collection in the correct order.
•Shelve library materials in correct order by alphabetical, numerical or the Dewey
Decimal System.
•Special projects such as shifting entire parts of the collection to ensure smooth
operation of the library.
•Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City
Attributes.
Working Environment:
Work is in a standard library environment, which includes exposure to dust. Work requires
standing, walking, bending and stooping, use of hands to make repetitive grasping motions,
lifting of up to 49 pounds, pushing and pulling of book carts, and sufficient vision to clearly read
book labels. May require climbing at least two steps on a ladder or step stool and reaching
above shoulder level. Work requires ability to read, write, and use mathematical reasoning at a
level sufficient to perform alphabetical and numeric sorting of books. Work requires ability to
hear and communicate orally with library patrons. Work requires working days, evenings and
weekends on a regular basis. Work frequently involves confidentiality, reasoning, problem
solving, and attention to detail.
Qualifications:
Education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job. Special
Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age.
