Req#: 1719Overview St. Joseph’s Medical Center – Associate Program Director/Vice Medical Director Responsibilies of the Associate Program Director/Vice Medical Director St. Joseph's Medical Center in Stockton, CA, is a 355-bed hospital and part of the CommonSpirit/ Dignity Health system. St. Joseph’s Medical Center is the largest hospital in San Joaquin County and considered the 10th busiest cardiothoracic department in California. The hospital has plans underway for a major building and services expansion in the next few years. The Anesthesiology department is diverse, consisting of 12 physicians and over 30 independent-practice CRNAs providing services for up to 16 anesthetizing locations daily to include acute care ORs, cardiac ORs, obstetrics, GI/endo, cath Lab, interventional radiology, a hospital ambulatory surgery center, and a new venture with a local orthopedics surgery center. The annual anesthesia case volume is approx. 14,300 cases consisting of ~9,000 surgical cases, 2,500 obstetrics cases, 800 cardiac cases, and 2,000 out-of-OR cases in GI, cath lab, and interventional radiology. The Anesthesia Residency program started in July 2021 with 10 total Residents (4 PGY2/CA1 and 6 PGY1) and with approval for an additional 6 new Residents annually, up to 24 total in the program. Residency subspecialty training currently available at St. Joseph’s include cardiac, obstetrics, critical care, acute and chronic pain, and eventually, pediatrics. St. Joseph’s is centrally and conveniently located only 50 minutes from Sacramento, only 90 minutes from San Francisco and Yosemite National Park, and only a few hours away from Lake Tahoe. The St. Joseph's medical staff tend to reside in the nearby communities of Stockton (Brookside) and the nearby surrounding communities of Lodi, Elk Grove, Manteca, and Tracy. Physicians in the process of completing their Residency are welcome to apply to our diverse practice. Position Description: The Associate Program Director/Vice Medical Director of the Anesthesiology Residency program must possess the following minimum qualifications and those stipulated in the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education ACGME basic document criteria for program directors:a. Membership in the ACGME.b. Certification by the ACGME through the ABA and recertified within the prescribed time frame of the certifying body.c. Be credentialed and have staff privileges by the department or section of Anesthesia at the base institution.d. Practice of anesthesiology for a minimum of five (5) years or three (3) years full-time with an anesthesiology residency program. Active staff membership within the department of anesthesiology.e. Active staff membership within the department of anesthesiology.f. Fulfill the qualifications as a faculty member of an anesthesiology residency program, including program administration, demonstrated leadership skills, faculty development, anesthesiology training skills, and completion of ACGME continuing medical education (CME) requirements. ACGME requires 150 hours of CME credits over a three-year period, fifty (50) of which are to be in the specialty of anesthesia.g. Active participation in community and professional organizations (i.e, city, county, state).h. Involvement in scholarly research and academic pursuits; examples may include but are not limited to publication in peer review journals, textbooks, local or specialty publications, formal lectures, and visiting professorships. Associate Program Director/Vice Medical Director Responsibilities: a. Assist the Residency Director in the daily leadership, oversight, and direction of the Anesthesiology Residency program to ensure that the residents compliantly meet and exceed the necessary training requirements.b. Arrangement of formal affiliation agreements and/or outside rotations necessary to meet the basic standards or enhance training to meet the program objectives. Evaluations from the individual responsible at the affiliated training site must be included in the Program Director’s annual report of each resident.c. Provide evidence of progressive and increasing responsibility by the resident as his/her training progresses.d. Submit quarterly Associate Program Director’s reports to the DME and the ACGME. Annual reports must be submitted to the ACGME, and the completion of each report must be submitted to the ACGME at the completion of each year of training.e. Provide evidence of cooperative assistance in the training of the anesthesiology residents by other departments.f. Provide a printed format of reading assignments for the residents.g. Schedule formal journal club meetings.h. Provide evidence of the utilization of allopathic concepts and philosophy in the residency program.i. Schedule/participate in medical audits, mortality reviews, tissue, and tumor conferences.j. Work with the DME to support pre-doctoral and post-doctoral education and training at the institution.k. Collaborate with the Department Chief/Chair/Medical Director of Anesthesia to ensure the integration of resident training with the operational, service, and staffing needs of the department and the hospital.
