Job Title: Coding Specialist (OB/GYN)
Shift Schedule: Remote 5X8, M-F. All morning starts. Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, ensures charges are coded appropriately from the medical record and entered into the billing system accurately. Codes medical records for surgical practices utilizing ICD-9/ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT-4 coding conventions. Assigns specified codes to medical diagnoses with some coding of specific clinical procedures. Job Requirements:
HS Diploma/GED Certification as a CPC or CCS-P required Proficient in assigning and abstracting ICD-10-CM and CPT codes from provider documentation 2+ years experience with coding OB/GYN professional services required 2+ years experience with coding OB/GYN surgical procedures in a hospital setting for professional services preferred Certified Obstetrics Gynecology Coder (COBGC) preferred Outpatient professional fee revenue cycle management experience preferred Job Functions:
The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel in this classification. They are not exhaustive of all job duties. Deciphers operative reports and other physician medical record documentation to select codes and maximize charge capture, ensuring coding compliance with standards and guidelines. Acts as liaison between clinical and billing departments, answering questions in a timely manner. Ensures quality, accuracy, and timeliness of clinical data in patient records by reviewing and analyzing medical information for reimbursement, statistical, and indexing purposes. Meets established productivity and proficiency standards. Attends coding seminars, hospital, and departmental meetings as required or assigned. Participates in hospital educational in-services. Uses appropriate customer relation skills to ensure respectful treatment of all customers and maintains confidentiality of data.
