Responsibilities:
• Perform vital signs assessment and obtain a comprehensive, relevant medical history from offenders.
• Conduct independent evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and trauma, consistent with clinical scope and licensure.
• Manage and monitor chronic health conditions, ensuring continuity of care and adherence to evidence-based guidelines.
• Prescribe indicated medications, including narcotics and controlled substances, in accordance with physician supervision, DAC policy, and state/federal regulations.
• Administer approved immunizations and preventive care in compliance with facility's protocols.
• Provide patient education and counseling on medications, treatment plans, diet, weight management, substance use, and disease prevention.
• Refer patients to the supervising physician or clinical director for evaluation of complex conditions beyond the scope of the NP/PA role.
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests including labs, X-rays, EKGs, audiograms, and tympanometry to guide clinical decision-making.
• Perform routine and comprehensive physical examinations for diagnosis, intake, or chronic disease follow-up.
• Document all clinical encounters promptly and accurately in the HERO electronic medical record system using POMR format.
• Maintain compliance with all standards under the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act and facility policies, including timely reporting, quality assurance participation, and ethical care delivery.
• Participate in utilization reviews, quality improvement activities, and peer consultations as required.
