General Function
:
Under the supervision of the Community Health Director and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Community Health Coordinator will assist in all aspects of the assigned health and wellness programs. With an emphasis on ensuring the highest quality service to members and guests, the Wellness Experience Coordinator will work closely with other center and community leaders in efforts to welcome, connect, support, and engage all community members, center members and staff.
Qualifications
:
Minimum of 21 years of age Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience. Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience preferred. Two or more years experience in the Group Exercise/Wellness field. Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) or American Council on Exercise (ACE) certification preferred. American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or a YMCA certification preferred. Evidence Based Health Initiative Certifications preferred. Certification of CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 Maintain a current and up to date HIPAA Certification Complete and maintain required trainings to include but not limited to: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment upon hire and annually thereafter. Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check. Essential Functions
: Supports the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA. Promotes a professional work environment through character development by modeling the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Leads in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Promotes and participates in association task forces, committees and/or workgroups to promote Center and Association unity. Wear staff uniform and name tag, or professional attire when appropriate. Promotes and participates in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual and Capital Campaigns. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements. Provide staff with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk. Act as a leader in emergency situations. Report any accidents or incidents according to Emergency Communication Action Plan. Ensure all members, guests, and program participants are in a safe environment and actively follow center Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
Program Development
Assist in organizing, planning, promoting and scheduling events and special programs to include small groups and Evidence Based Health Initiatives Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of health, fitness and wellness programming. Maintain safety and upkeep of all assigned areas. Program Administration
Assist in planning and conducting staff meetings. Attend all staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Assist in supervising, training and scheduling assigned staff to include Payroll. Assit in updating and maintaining communication between staff, leadership and members using social media platforms to include but not limited to, Facebook, yConnect, Twitter, and Instagram. Assist in maintaining accurate staff records and ensure certifications are current for self and staff in order to meet/exceed association guidelines. Assist in organizing, staffing and implementing curriculum for assigned wellness programs. Assist in entering is data for EBHI or grant funded programs. Participate in monthly educational health promotions and events. Assist in attending, organizing, planning and promoting community engagement events and fairs. Follow department Association standards. Team Leadership
Assist in planning and conducting staff meetings. Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Assist in hiring, developing, and motivating committed team members passionate about the YMCA's mission and service to others. Assist in coaching and leading staff in the areas of direct responsibility. Oversee the implementation of the daily operations of the assigned wellness programs. Assist in supervising, training and scheduling staff. Assist in updating and maintaining the communication between staff and leadership. Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the YMCA's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Skills and Ability Requirements:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents. Ability to reason and define difficult problems with direction. Ability to coordinate and plan events effectively. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints. Ability to properly prepare, choreograph, teach all required classes. Must be able to meet the physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals. Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations. Effect on End Results :
Deepened impact in the community as reflected by increased community partnerships and evidence based health initiative participant numbers. Deepened impact in the community as reflected by growth in program participants. Strong member loyalty to our brand is achieved as measured by NPS and retention rate. Staff feel a loyalty to our cause measured by Association Satisfaction Survey. Staff believe our YMCA is a charity measured by their contributions to the Center's Annual Campaign. Program Participants have a deeper connection to our cause as reflected by their contributions to the Annual Campaign.
