Instrument and Controls Technician
to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in commissioning and starting up renewable natural gas (RNG) plants and landfill gas-to-energy power plants. This position requires a strong background in construction, loop checks, and commissioning, with specific experience in renewable natural gas or power. NOTE:
This is a remote position that will require the ability to travel extensively (up to 75% or more) to support commissioning projects as needed. Responsibilities: Communicate regularly with the manager regarding any encountered or expected issues with schedule, work scope, or the need for additional resources to solve problems. Follow Ameresco’s safety protocols at all times, including PPE use, LOTO practices, hot work permits, and safe work habits. Travel to vendor sites to perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) on control panels and other equipment. Use electrical test equipment to verify I/O on control circuits from PLCs to field devices, diagnosing issues and implementing solutions. Verify and tune the function of valves, actuators, and positioners. Assist with setup, configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of plant servers, networks, HMI graphics, PLCs, internet services, VPNs, and data historians. Update P&IDs, control panel drawings, and schematics as per revision procedures. Provide technical support for mechanical and control system troubleshooting. Support plant performance testing and oversee subcontracted vendors and commissioning personnel. Travel extensively (up to 75%) as needed for project support. Perform other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in controls-related discipline or equivalent experience. At least five (5) years of instrumentation and controls commissioning experience in an industrial setting. Additional Qualifications: Experience in renewable natural gas or power projects. Strong knowledge of PLCs, DCS, SCADA, HMI systems. Proficiency in controls design software. Loop check experience. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Experience with Rockwell Studio5000, HART communicators, plant HMIs, and PLC programming tools. Knowledge of safe tool use and electrical diagram reading. Physical ability to perform tasks requiring bending, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 45 pounds. Proficiency with Windows, MS Office, PDF editors. Experience with GE iFIX HMI software. Company Description Ameresco, Inc.
