Job Summary:
The Engineer III position requires an engineer with significant experience in the environmental and solid waste industry. The ideal candidate will possess superior problem-solving and management skills applied to a diverse portfolio of technical projects. The role includes responsibility for engineering and construction at solid waste disposal facilities, communication with senior management, and the direction and mentoring of junior staff. This position involves using technical knowledge to support innovative waste management services for a variety of clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engage, direct, and manage professional consulting firms performing work at solid waste facilities, including permit applications, construction plans, monitoring, and regulatory submittals. Responsible for the final work product.
- Maintain strong working relationships with regulators and serve as a primary technical and permitting contact. Represent the company in permit meetings, hearings, site inspections, technical conferences, and community forums.
- Manage landfill construction projects from planning to final approval. Responsibilities include managing consultants, contractors, and budgets; preparing bid documents; coordinating construction teams; and overseeing materials procurement and quality assurance.
- Manage and track capital budgets for engineering and construction projects.
- Coordinate landfill capacity tracking, including airspace calculations, capacity projections, and fill sequencing plans.
- Evaluate sites for compliance with construction and permit documents and identify potential for site expansion. Pursue necessary permits or modifications.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop cost-effective engineering solutions to environmental and compliance issues at various facilities. Provide technical direction to management and support teams.
- Participate in acquisition reviews and support divestiture evaluations, including modeling and coordination with management during due diligence.
- Assist in training and mentorship of technical staff.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Engineering. Preferred degrees include Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
- Five (5) years of related experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of time, including travel to remote locations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with a variety of audiences.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- In depth knowledge of environmental regulations, including solid waste, air, storm water and wastewater.
- In depth knowledge of landfill design and permitting.
- Strong project management skills with ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to lead environmental, engineering, and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations
- Understanding of accounting processes and P&L statements.
