Job Description About the Mission You Will Join: The team supporting the EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ) Fuels IT systems is seeking an Environmental Analyst to support their industry fuel registration, reporting, and compliance activities. Your Impact on the Mission: VMD is seeking a people-oriented problem solver to provide specialized support for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The work setting will be primarily remote, but the candidate must be able to support onsite at EPA Headquarters in Washington, DC, as needed. In this role, you will review materials submitted by regulated parties in the transportation fuel industry, respond to industry inquiries on regulatory matters, and support the use of IT systems for EPA’s Fuels program compliance. You must develop a deep knowledge of relevant regulations, guidance, policies, and IT systems related to EPA programs for transportation fuel, and communicate these effectively with stakeholders through various methods including email, phone, webinars, and meetings. Responsibilities: Review registration, reporting, and compliance submissions; perform data entry; and execute miscellaneous tasks as requested. Analyze and interpret stakeholder questions regarding IT systems, operations, and policies. Develop and follow standard operating procedures. Analyze data and stakeholder input to aid decision-making. Identify functional requirements through process analysis and stakeholder interviews. Communicate with the systems development team regarding industry issues and requests; assist in troubleshooting. Support business operations development. Conduct outreach to industry stakeholders to relay guidance. Draft reports summarizing team activities. Incorporate feedback into work products. Experience Needed: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 0-3 years of related experience, or Master’s degree. Comfortable working with clients and providing customer support. Strong writing, communication, and analytical skills; quick learner with web-based IT systems. Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively in remote and in-office environments. Self-starter capable of managing own work and supporting team members. Knowledge of business process analysis and high comfort with analytical tasks. Ability to multi-task and work with systems. Desired Qualifications: Experience with database query techniques (preferred). Interest in renewable fuels, environmental protection, or policy (highly desirable). Familiarity with regulations: 40 CFR Parts 79, 80, and 1090, Fuels and Fuel Additives, or Renewable Fuel Standard. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Policy, or related field. Minimum of 1 year overall and specific experience. Interim Public Trust clearance to start. U.S. Citizenship required. Ideal Candidate Traits: Curious, eager to learn, attentive to detail. Accountable and maintains integrity. Travel and Telecommuting: No travel required.
