Position Summary:
The School of Business Dean's Office is inviting talented and qualified candidates to apply for the hourly role of Research Program Administrator. This position is part-time at up to 10 hours per week. This role will provide essential operational support for the implementation of the Office of Research Excellence initiative and assist with strategic research administration activities aligned with the university's Opportunity 2030 Strategic Plan. This position will report to the Interim Associate Dean, Strategic Affairs and Research Initiatives and will work closely with faculty, staff, and university partners to support comprehensive research excellence across the School of Business.
Typical Responsibilities: Document Preparation and Filing: Prepare, organize, and maintain documents, policies, proposals, reports, presentations, and administrative materials. Ensure proper filing systems and document version control for Office of Research Excellence initiatives.
Data Entry and Database Management: Input and maintain accurate data in research databases, tracking systems, and university platforms. Support development and maintenance of research impact dashboards and knowledge management systems.
Opportunity 2030 Strategic Plan Support: Provide operational assistance for strategic plan implementation activities, including progress tracking, program coordination, and administrative support for strategic initiatives within the School of Business.
Grant Application and Research Administration Support: Assist with grant application processes, including document preparation, deadline tracking, and coordination with OVPRI and other university offices. Support pre-award and post-award research administration activities.
Event and Program Coordination: Provide logistical support for research seminars, workshops, speaker series, and other Office of Research Excellence programming. Coordinate meeting schedules, room reservations, and materials preparation.
Administrative and Communication Support: Assist with general office operations, correspondence, and liaison activities between the Dean's Office and other university departments, external partners, and research stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
Several years of experience working at Virginia Commonwealth University with demonstrated knowledge of VCU policies, procedures, and organizational structure.
Experience with VCU administrative systems and processes, including financial procedures and university operations.
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an employee at VCU.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with VCU research administration processes and policies, including knowledge of sponsored research procedures and compliance requirements.
Proficiency with VCU systems including RAMS-SPOT, Banner, and other university databases and administrative platforms.
Experience supporting strategic planning initiatives or organizational development projects within a university setting.
Knowledge of VCU and business school operations, academic research processes, or grant administration.
Experience with program support activities.
Familiarity with data management, database maintenance, and information systems.
Additional Information:
Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10 hours per week. This position is eligible for a hybrid and flexible work schedule with remote work options once training is complete and must be coordinated with the supervisor of this role.
