Job Requirements

Position Overview: Operate one or more welding machines or industrial robots to fabricate metal parts or assemblies to specifications. Apply basic knowledge of welding theory on a production basis by performing the following duties:

1. Lifts work piece manually or using hoist and secures it in fixture or loads automatic feeding device.
2. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machine factors, such as wire feed speed, amperage, polarity, type of gas, and type of weld rod.
3. Starts machine, engages feed, and observes operation.
4. Inspects and measures machined work pieces to verify conformance to specifications.
5. Moves machine controls and guides to adjust machine.
6. Unloads welded frames from robotic welder and places them on appropriate containers.
7. Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
8. Removes rough spots from work pieces using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers.
9. Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scrapers, power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
10. Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
11. Replaces worn machine accessories such as cutting tools or brushes.
12. Files, sands, or shapes machined parts.
13. Performs all functions involved in operation of robotic welder, including programming, touch point, and operations corrections.
14. Maintains accurate counts of parts; attaches labels or tags to finished part containers identifying customer, part number, quantity, and shop order information.
15. Performs basic MIG and TIG welding techniques as needed.
16. Maintains company quality, efficiency, and productivity standards.
17. Reads job specifications (e.g. blueprints, quality control plans and/or traveler notes) to determine type of welding and material requirements.
18. Uses equipment and supplies to perform work in accordance with operational standards.
19. Examines finished work pieces to verify conformance with specifications according to operator inspection sheet, quality control plans, and/or customer notes using instruments such as gauges.
20. Reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the Robotic Welding Manager.
21. Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on equipment and machines.
22. Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
23. May perform other related duties or work at different workstations as production needs require.
24. Other duties as assigned.
