Overview
Providing advanced technical expertise in servicing new and existing clients, including cross-selling, account development, and problem solving, aligned with BGSU's standards and values. Managing the entire underwriting cycle for individual accounts and assisting in the preparation of underwriting figures for the Business Plan. Leading and guiding team members to achieve departmental goals, and liaising with the SVP on team performance. Reviewing underwriting and risk evaluations, communicating findings to senior management. Initiating pricing discussions for new and renewal accounts, coordinating with Actuarial and management to ensure competitiveness and profitability. Monitoring business within underwriting capacity, reviewing portfolio exposures, and recommending portfolio and pricing adjustments. Participating in Peer Review meetings, developing solutions for issues, and liaising with legal, claims, and loss control to mitigate risks. Advising clients on policy coverages and contract wording, ensuring submissions adhere to regulatory guidelines. Business Planning / Management Information
Preparing management reports, analyzing financial performance, and providing recommendations. Providing operational performance updates, budgets, forecasts, and statistical reports to SVP and management. Assisting in budget preparation and monitoring to meet profit and growth goals. Conducting economic and statistical data analysis to inform strategic decisions. Marketing
Developing new business opportunities aligned with underwriting strategy. Traveling to and leading client meetings, maintaining key client relationships, and engaging with market practitioners for insights. Operational
Maintaining knowledge of internal controls and procedures related to underwriting. Fostering a sales-oriented team culture, participating in hiring and training, and improving operational efficiencies. Implementing procedures compliant with laws and regulations, integrating new acquisitions, and resolving workload issues. Decision Making Responsibilities
Underwriting submissions according to approved authority levels, with consultation with the SVP as needed. Presenting risks at Peer Review meetings, articulating underwriting rationale.
