as a
Licensed Land Surveyor – Survey/SUE Project Manager . This role leads the planning, coordination, and execution of survey projects including utility locating, land development, and infrastructure design support. You’ll manage teams of surveyors and technicians, oversee quality control, engage clients, and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Core Responsibilities
Direct field survey crews and technicians in collecting and analyzing spatial data Oversee project planning, budgeting, and deliverables for a wide range of surveying assignments Coordinate with engineering teams, right-of-way, utilities, and clients to ensure alignment Lead research on deeds, plats, and prior survey data to verify project accuracy Prepare and review legal descriptions, plats, and detailed survey documentation Ensure project compliance with federal, state, and local surveying regulations Conduct client meetings and represent the company in conferences and external communications Develop criteria for survey methodology and drive continuous improvement Provide mentoring, leadership, and performance management to junior survey staff Contribute to business development and client retention in the region
Required Qualifications
12+ years of professional surveying experience Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) in Virginia Strong understanding of federal, state, and local surveying regulations Experience managing diverse and concurrent survey projects High-level communication and leadership skills
Preferred Tools & Technologies
MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D Familiarity with subsurface utility engineering (SUE), LiDAR, and sUAS Previous work with VDOT or local municipalities a plus
Working Conditions
80% office-based, 20% fieldwork Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs) and outdoor work in variable weather conditions Local travel required for site inspections and client meetings
