For this role, we are seeking a Senior VMware Engineer with on-premises data center experience and working with bare-metal deployments. The candidate must be onsite 5 days a week in Cheyenne, Wyoming. If relocating, the candidate should be onsite from day 1. Senior VMware Engineer Requirements: Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; six years of related experience; or equivalent education and experience. 4+ years of professional experience with VMware services and tools. Direct experience in bare-metal deployments of VMware infrastructure. Experience building and managing VMware products across multiple remote locations and data centers. At least 2 years of programming experience in Java, C++, Perl, Python, Ruby, or advanced Shell scripting. Preferred additional experience: Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, automating deployments, cluster management, and security within a CI/CD pipeline. Experience with VMware Cloud (VMC) on AWS. Experience managing VMware infrastructure in large enterprise environments. Knowledge of Kubernetes, containers, and microservices principles. Ability to produce, maintain, and version system documentation. Primary Responsibilities: Provide technical leadership: mentor junior engineers and new team members, and solve complex programming and design challenges. Design and develop highly available, fault-tolerant VMware infrastructure solutions. Establish standards for design, deployment, tuning, maintenance, backups, upgrades, and automation of VMware infrastructure. Proactively update software and architecture to prevent capacity issues. Develop automated incident response solutions to minimize manual intervention. Monitor system metrics (MTBF, MTTR, etc.) and communicate findings to decision-makers. Manage issue priorities and participate in on-call rotations, including weekends.
