Job Overview
The Underwriting Manager determines workload, workflow and monitors department production and service standards. This position will work closely with the Senior Vice President of Underwriting to identify and implement underwriting programs that improve business opportunities. The Underwriting Manager will support the Senior Vice President of Underwriting with the oversight and development of short and long-term underwriting projects, strategic goals and objectives. This position is expected to perform all duties in accordance with Deephaven Mortgage policies, procedures, guidelines and applicable state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will reside on the West Coast.
What You'll Do Works to develop and increase skill set and knowledge of all underwriting personnel Provides insight, direction and expertise to less experienced team members Independently makes decisions and leads special projects Builds and manages networks of business, lender, and internal relationships Provides input on new and / or existing Underwriting processes, procedures and future enhancements Monitors incoming volume and balance pipelines and assignment of production Recruits, hires and trains underwriting personnel Collaborates with SVP and VP of Underwriting on the preparation of the annual performance reviews, any necessary counseling and or performance improvement plans Collaborates with SVP and VP of Underwriting to resolve personnel issues and ensure cohesiveness among staff Coordinates and cooperates with managers interdepartmentally to ensure optimum efficiency Identifies Pre-Closing and Post-Closing trends and provides training where needed Assists others in researching and interpreting complex data to determine meaning and best course of action Assesses loan attributes and documentation for soundness and accuracy Reviews and evaluates data to ascertain loan viability and identify risk issues and potential fraud Assists in identifying, recommending and / or negotiating alternative loan requirements, restructure, and exception solutions
What We Need College degree preferred or minimum of 10 years of mortgage experience required Manual underwriting experience Previous management or team lead experience with direct reports Minimum 2 years correspondent and/or wholesale experience preferred Understanding of HELOC/HELOAN experience Experience with Business Purpose Lending/Multifamily Underwriting Ability to establish and cultivate professional and collaborative working relationships across departments Comprehend the organization's key priorities and the underlying business rationale driving them Extensive experience in underwriting with deep knowledge of mortgage lending, auditing, and credit processes Working knowledge of non-conventional guidelines, as well as Federal and State compliance requirements Problem solver who can discern scenarios for the best overall client experience Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information, collaborate effectively with diverse teams, and tailor messaging to various audiences Must be West Coast based
Compensation:
The base pay for this position is up to $135,000 annually, plus eligibility for a monthly bonus incentive plan based on team performance.
