Title: Staff Software Engineer – Consumer Revenue
Location: Remote (U.S.-based only)
Type: Full-time
Compensation: $248,000 – $279,000 base + equity + benefits
Team Focus: Revenue products & monetization
Level: Staff (high-impact IC role, leadership without people management)
Mission of the Role
As a Staff Engineer on the Consumer Revenue team, you’ll be responsible for scaling Discord’s revenue-driving product lines , accelerating existing streams (like Nitro) and laying groundwork for new monetization initiatives. You’ll directly influence multi-billion-dollar revenue goals , working across engineering, product, design, and marketing.
This isn’t just about building software—it’s about driving business outcomes through technical leadership and execution.
- Own technical direction for initiatives tied to revenue growth and monetization.
- Guide the development of both user-facing features and backend systems powering them.
- Partner closely with cross-functional leaders in product, design, marketing, and customer success.
- Collaborate with other Staff+ engineers to ensure architectural alignment across teams.
- Help shape the engineering strategy to support Discord’s long-term business goals.
What You Should Bring
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in high-scale consumer or revenue-focused products .
- Experience with at least one of Discord’s major platforms:
- Frontend: React, TypeScript
- Backend: Python (main), Elixir (some)
- A history of leading complex technical initiatives from ideation to production.
- Demonstrated ability to ship impactful product features and iterate fast.
- Comfort working cross-functionally and influencing both peers and leadership.
- A product mindset—you care about the "why" behind features and want to make them delightful and effective.
- Experience with subscription platforms , consumer billing systems , or in-app purchases .
- Exposure to growth engineering , retention , or A/B testing infrastructure .
- Experience in a gaming, social, or creator economy product space.
- Frontend: React + TypeScript
- Backend: Python (primary), Elixir (some services)
