About the Role
Under the direction of the Workers' Compensation Principal Program Coordinator, oversee Third-party Administrator (TPA) claim adjusters in accordance with best practices on all major phases of claim handling including coverage, investigation, compensability, medical management, disability management, evaluation/reserving, recovery, and resolution.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and attend meetings with the Agency's authorized TPA, as well as internal staff and external medical and legal professionals.
Act as the primary point of contact for TPA claim teams.
Collaborate with business partners to ensure alignment on valuation of the exposure and strategy to resolve claims.
Oversee the accident reporting process to ensure that injury reports are completed and sent to the TPA in a timely manner by all internal units.
Review for accuracy and coordinate the delivery of salary adjustments on lost time claims from the TPA to the Agency's accounting staff.
Generate reports, as requested, using the Risk Management Information system to monitor costs, analyze injury data and trends.
Perform the functions of System Administrator for the Risk Management Information System, including updating user profiles, as needed as well as any ad hoc items.
Provide customer service by responding to inquiries from injured employees, staff and outside counsel regarding workers' compensation claims.
Establish and develop sound working relationships with all internal staff including the Law Department and the Office of Medical Services, as well as outside counsel.
Open, review and forward incoming mail and emails (medical bills, notices of decisions, etc.) to TPA.
Conduct annual questionnaire/survey of long-term recipients to verify that continued WC benefits are appropriate. Monitor the scheduling of annual and semi-annual investigations performed on long-term WC benefit recipients.
Performing other related duties and assignments as required by the Principal Business Manager and providing coverage during periods of absence including providing general oversight of departmental timekeeping as well as monitoring timekeeping entries for accuracy.
Creating and processing departmental Purchase Orders, Payment Requests, Service Entries, etc. through SAP and/or the Agency Vendor Management (AVM) System.
Serve as records management compliance officer.
Perform M/WBE Performance reporting duties via B2G system as needed.
Co-Administrative Liaison for the Department's Business Continuity (BC) Plan, working closely with managers on plan updates/maintenance utilizing FUSION and the departments representative at OEM's Annual BC tabletop exercise testing the effectiveness of the department's existing BC plan as well as sending out test notifications via the Everbridge mass notification system.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have at least 3-years of experience as a Workers' Compensation adjustor in either NY or NJ Exposure handling Workers' Compensation (WC) cases for large and complex programs Demonstrated analytical skills Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with staff at all levels Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated organizational skills Experience using Microsoft PC applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, SharePoint, Teams)
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field from an accredited college or university or the equivalent work experience.
- Experience in managing Carrier and/or TPA's handling complex WC/GL claims in NY and NJ
- Experience with handling Workers' Compensation (WC) within an Owners Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP)
- Strong technical claims and coverage knowledge.
- Demonstrated experience with PeopleSoft, SAP, BudgetPro, and Salesforce
- Ability to communicate effectively with IT professionals, on both a technical and non-technical level, to identify, analyze, and resolve system problems.
