Overview
Experienced Software Engineer, API & Developer Experience We build simple yet innovative consumer products and developer APIs that shape how everybody interacts with money and the financial system. Plaid is on a mission to unlock financial freedom for everyone. The Developer Experience (DevX) team is dedicated to empowering developers to build the next generation of financial services. We own the surfaces that developers touch first — from intuitive documentation and seamless onboarding to robust APIs, SDKs, and integration tools. Our mission is to make it fast, easy, and delightful for developers to integrate with Plaid, whether they’re solo builders or large enterprise teams. We work closely across Product, Engineering, Design, and Developer Relations to champion the voice of the developer and shape a best-in-class platform experience. Responsibilities Support the entirety of Plaid’s engineering team to scalably enable every engineer at Plaid to make high-quality changes to the Plaid API. Doing this through: developing systems, principles, and design patterns for the evolution of Plaid’s API, including API versioning. Lead the development of the next-generation Plaid API platform. Collaborate across most customer-facing Engineering teams, Product, and Design, to ship intuitive, high-quality experiences. Support the growth of other engineers at Plaid through mentorship, especially on APIs. Serve as the technical lead for the Developer Experience area, supporting other engineers in supporting workflows like our Sandbox environment, and initiatives that help AI-first customers build agents with Plaid. Qualifications 6-10+ years of engineering experience, preferably in a role where you owned an API before. Experience working with developer platforms, API products, or technical ecosystems. A passion for APIs — you care deeply about developer experience and designing for longevity, functionality, and simplicity. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — you can clearly articulate design principles and customer understanding to other engineers, product managers, and executives. Empathy for developers and a track record of shipping lovable experiences.
