+ equity + benefits Reports to : Senior Manager, Safety By Design Policy This role sits at the
intersection of policy, product, and engineering , working to ensure safety is embedded into the
APIs, SDKs, and third-party developer ecosystem
on Discord. Collaborate across departments
(Product, Engineering, Legal, Design, Compliance, DevRel) to identify and mitigate safety risks in
new or existing developer-facing features . Own and evolve the
Discord Developer Policies , dictating how third parties can use APIs and SDKs safely and responsibly. Deeply understand and document how Discord’s
public APIs, SDKs, tools, and developer apps
interact with the broader platform. Evaluate
policy implications
of product changes and define enforcement and mitigation requirements. Help develop internal safety frameworks, presentations, and training materials for teams. Write
external user-facing content
to explain safety practices (e.g., blog posts, help docs). Required Qualifications
3+ years
of experience related to APIs, SDKs, app platforms, open source, or third-party integrations. Demonstrated experience with: Trust & Safety Digital policy Advocacy for vulnerable/marginalized communities Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. Strong
cross-functional collaboration skills —able to partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Deep concern for
tech’s social impact , particularly around communication platforms. Proactive, collaborative, and willing to
challenge assumptions
in the interest of safer systems. Programming background (helpful for API proficiency, but not mandatory). Familiarity with Discord as a platform or its developer ecosystem. Experience in
international digital policy
or regulation. Multilingual (to support global community engagement and policy localization). ️
