The incumbent will function as a faculty member in the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, Division of Medicine Psychiatry. They will provide psychiatric services in SIU Psychiatry and/or Internal Medicine locations, including Springfield and Jacksonville SIU Clinics, partnering agencies, and hospital services at Springfield Memorial Hospital, St. John's Hospital, and/or Packard Mental Health Center, on inpatient or outpatient basis as needed for residency training. Ability to provide ECT is essential. The role includes clinical and didactic training, establishing lines of scholarship, and serving as the Internal Medicine-Psychiatry Residency Program Director. Responsibilities also include active participation in instructional activities for students, residents, and allied health professionals, as well as service and research functions related to their specialty interests. Examples of Duties
35% TEACHING Instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows in Psychiatry, including participation in rounds, conferences, and seminars. Development and oversight of clinical and didactic educational experiences for Medicine-Psychiatry residents. Mentoring students and participating in residency didactics, Grand Rounds, and conferences. Providing clinical supervision and moderating journal clubs and case conferences. 60% SERVICE (PATIENT CARE) Maintain outpatient practice according to SIU HealthCare policies. Provide inpatient and/or consultation-liaison coverage at affiliated hospitals, including ECT services. Participate in call schedules and routine inpatient coverage duties. 1% RESEARCH Oversee resident research activities and maintain progress. Establish research lines independently or collaboratively. Publish peer-reviewed articles or chapters periodically. 4% ADMINISTRATION/PROFESSIONAL SERVICES Serve as Residency Director, recommend policies, monitor quality, participate in strategic planning, and ensure compliance with accreditation standards. Manage residency budget and oversee staff and recruitment processes. Attend administrative meetings as assigned. Qualifications
MD or DO degree, eligible for Illinois licensure. Completed residency in internal medicine and psychiatry. Board certified or eligible in both specialties, with expectation to achieve certification within three years. Experience in ECT and willingness to train in TMS. Experience with multicultural populations and sensitivity to minority needs. Additional Information
