The Role Pilot, a successful startup, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer. Our team builds products that address meaningful problems for startups and small businesses daily: providing real-time insights into their business health, offering close control and visibility into their books, and supplying tools for strategic business and financial decision-making that help save or generate money. Pilot aims to equip our customers with the same capabilities as large companies with full finance teams — including deep understanding of financial health, continuous improvement mechanisms, and predictive planning abilities. We achieve this at a fraction of the cost through powerful software. Our backend is written in fully typed Python 3.11, and our frontend utilizes JavaScript, TypeScript, and Vue.js. We manage our production infrastructure with Terraform, deploy Docker containers to ECS, and use AWS CodeDeploy for deployments. Monitoring is handled by Honeycomb, with Postgres as our database. Key Responsibilities Building, testing, and deploying software continuously (daily or more often) Collaborating with PMs and Product Designers, participating in product and design reviews Creating and contributing to technical specifications and testing/rollout plans Engaging with internal customers and stakeholders to ensure problem relevance Mentoring and supporting teammates to foster growth Providing support for your software and services as needed About You Even if you lack experience with our specific technologies, we’d love to hear from you! Our requirements include: 7+ years of experience as a software engineer Experience with Python in production Ability to work collaboratively across functions Strong written, verbal, and technical communication skills Ability to write well-structured, tested, and maintainable code Proven mentorship and teaching abilities We are also interested in candidates with backgrounds in accounting, fintech, or related fields.
