The College of Engineering & Computer Science (ECS) on the campus of Sac State is seeking to hire two graduate students assistants for the Counseling Assistant position and these students will provides front-line career services to a diverse population of students and alumni within the College of Engineering & Computer Science.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI position for a different UEI posting should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (i.e., degree, license, or official transcript), DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
Prerequisites
Must be a Sac State student enrolled in at least six-semester units (undergrad) or four-semester units (graduate) students.
Majors/Fields of Study
Counselor Education (Career, School, Vocational Rehabilitation or MFCC), Educational Leadership, Psychology or Social Work programs.
Work Schedule
Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 9 AM - 4 PM. Final work schedule to be determined by supervisor.
Must be able to commit at least 16 hours per week.
Must be available for a week long training in August before the start of the fall semester.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).
Minimum Qualifications
Must be available for a week long training in August before the start of the fall semester. Advanced oral and written communication skills. Available at least 16 hours per week, between 9:00am - 4:00pm (training and supervision may be between 8:00am - 5:00pm) or based upon Career Services operating needs. Must be in good academic and judicial standing with Sacramento State University. Exemplary customer service skills in a fast-paced environment. Ability to organize complex information with attention to detail. Ability to work in a team environment and independently. Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Skilled in working with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with facilitating workshops/presentation. Graduate status in the Counselor Education (Career, School, Vocational Rehabilitation or MFCC), Educational Leadership, Psychology or Social Work programs preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides in-person and/or virtual career services to ECS students and alumni. Conducts brief intake interviews to determine the students primary reason for visiting; provides an orientation/overview of the Internship & Career Services Office to first-time visitors. Applies basic counseling and/or student development techniques and knowledge of the career development process. Critiques resumes, cover letters and other job search correspondence documents. Supports students in preparation and coaching for interviews, job fairs and salary negotiation. Assists students with identifying and applying for part-time and full-time positions, internships, and volunteer opportunities. Refers clients to on- and off-campus resources including, but not limited to: academic departments and programs, Student Health and Counseling Services, Crisis Assistance and Resources Education Support office, student engagement and success centers and programs, student retention and academic success centers and programs, and other client services, as needed. Incorporates the use of computerized career guidance and job preparation systems, including Handshake, Focus 2, What Can I Do With This Major?, Sac State Career Network, Big Interview, etc. Conducts presentations on ECS Internship & Career Services Office programs, services and career/professional development topics. Supports staff with outreach, career fairs, special events, programs, and workshops. Attending weekly meeting and training sessions.
Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment.
