Utah Valley University is seeking a collaborative and data-savvy professional to join our team as a Student Success BI Analyst. Working closely with Student Affairs and Business Intelligence and Research Services (BIRS), the analyst will play a key role in leading student success data initiatives, developing interactive dashboards, and guiding data-informed strategies across campus.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Project Leadership / Stakeholder Management Provides project leadership and coordination for data-informed student success initiatives. Collaborates with advisors, faculty, and student service teams to understand data needs and translate insights from the Student Success Management System (SSMS) into actionable outreach campaigns that support retention and engagement. Assists campus stakeholders in formulating data requests, interpreting student success metrics, and using available tools to support decision-making and strategic outreach.
- Analysis Collects, analyzes, and interprets data from the SSMS and other internal sources to identify trends, patterns, and risk indicators that inform student support strategies. Produces actionable dashboards, visualizations, and reports that communicate key student success indicators, track campaign effectiveness, and support continuous improvement efforts. Identifies areas of opportunity or concern through root cause analysis and presents findings to stakeholders to guide strategic interventions.
- Reporting and Tools Designs and develops reports and dashboards that enable campus partners to monitor student engagement, persistence, and success. Creates tools and templates to streamline reporting from the SSMS and ensure consistency and usability across departments. Ensures alignment with institutional data governance practices and contributes to enhancements in student success data tools.
- Professional Development and Best Practices Maintains knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in student success analytics, data visualization, predictive modeling, and data-informed outreach strategies. Participates in communities of practice and professional development to improve the use of data in student support.
- Other Duties as Assigned Performs additional duties related to student success data and outreach as assigned, including participation in cross-functional committees, task forces, or data projects.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree and one year of related experience in data analysis, data reporting, or student success technology in higher education, or any combination of education and relevant experience totaling five years.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant field.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Student Success Management Systems (e.g., Navigate, Starfish, Salesforce Education Cloud) and their role in student retention and support.
- Higher education student support services, advising models, and retention strategies.
- Data governance practices, FERPA, and institutional policies related to data security and privacy.
- Principles and practices of data analysis, including trend analysis, root cause analysis, and predictive modeling.
- Business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar reporting and dashboard platforms.
- SQL and/or other query languages used for extracting and manipulating data.
- Designing and delivering clear, actionable data visualizations and reports for diverse stakeholders.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams including advisors, faculty, institutional research, and IT professionals.
- Leading data-informed projects and coordinating outreach or engagement campaigns.
- Translating complex data into meaningful insights and strategic recommendations.
- Managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Effectively communicating data findings both orally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Interpret student success metrics to identify risk factors, trends, and opportunities for strategic intervention.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively in a collaborative team setting.
- Maintain high attention to detail while managing complex data sets.
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in handling sensitive student data.
- Stay current on best practices in student success analytics, data visualization, and data-informed decision-making.
- Adapt tools and approaches to meet the evolving needs of student affairs and institutional strategy.
