Job Summary
The Building Electrical Group handles all building electrical systems, including lighting, fire protection, and low voltage for our design-build, industrial projects. We design and construct food and beverage production facilities. Our team is involved in designing electrical systems, calculating power loads, selecting equipment, and vetting vendors and subcontractors. The professional will be responsible for scoping, performing, and delivering multiple projects. Responsibilities include:
Responsibilities
Design electrical systems for building power, including normal, emergency, and standby power distribution for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage.
Work independently on larger projects
Client communication and leading engineering efforts
Document calculations for short circuit, coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, voltage drops, load calculations, and conductor sizing
Maintain project documentation
Manage time effectively and meet deadlines
Understand electrical principles such as Ohm's Law, AC/DC, and electromagnetic fields
Apply power system theory, including 3-phase math, power factor, and symmetrical components
Design lighting for food processing areas, including calculations and fixture placement coordination
Design fire alarm systems per NFPA standards and local codes
Expertise in NEC, NFPA 72/101, IBC codes
Specify methods, grounding, cables, and equipment
Design low voltage systems like LAN, phones, PA, Wi-Fi, access control, cameras
Create power plans, one-line diagrams, and panel schedules
Define fire alarm and low voltage system requirements
Review scope with clients and produce bid documents
Use CAD for 2D & 3D device placement
Procure long lead items such as fixtures and power equipment
Perform short circuit calculations and identify deficiencies
Estimate weights for support structures
Assist in electrical bidding, construction observation, and startup
Conduct project planning and feasibility studies
Support department standards and research best practices
Mentor and coach team members
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
8+ years in electrical systems design for building power, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage systems
Experience in electrical bid documentation and procurement
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar programs
Relevant manufacturing or construction experience
FE or PE license preferred
Willingness to travel up to 25% to project sites
Physical Requirements
Sitting for extended periods at a desk and working on a computer
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds
