Job Summary: The Library Assistant supports the library’s daily operations by coordinating technical tasks and delivering exceptional customer service to patrons. This position helps patrons navigate library equipment and databases, maintains the library’s collection, and takes an active role in planning and delivering engaging library programs. Through these efforts, the Library Assistant ensures a positive and enriching experience for the community.
Minimum Job Requirements: High School diploma or General Education Degree. A valid Texas driver’s license. 3. Bilingual Preferred Essential Job Functions: Performs circulation desk duties, including checking in/out materials, managing holds, renewing items, and handling overdue materials. Provides customer service in person, by phone, and online, assisting patrons with reference inquiries and locating materials. Instructs patrons on the use of computers, equipment, databases, and software. Prepares and shelves materials, performs shelf reading, and handles cash and credit card transactions, including financial reporting. Assists with video recording and editing of virtual library programs. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of: City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
Skills in: Alphabetizing. Providing exceptional external and internal customer service. Communicating effectively. Operating a personal computer and various software programs.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Work is performed in a standard office environment with low to moderate noise level. Subject to sitting for an extended period of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting and putting away such items as records and office supplies of moderate weight of up to 40 pounds. Working with a wide variety of people.
