SUMMARY OF POSITION
: Under the general direction of the IT Operations Manager, designs, operates, and maintains the City IP network, enterprise technology infrastructure, and support of technology platforms. The City of Seguin is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Information Technology Administrator with a fundamental knowledge of IP networking to manage, maintain, and improve our organization's network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring reliable network performance, monitoring system availability, and providing technical support to internal users.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
: Essential Duties* Under the supervision of the IT Operations Manager, troubleshoots and resolves issues with the City owned fiber ring, wireless, network, telecom, and enterprise video management infrastructure. Practical knowledge and application of VLAN's, Layer 2/3, telecom, and firewalls required. Maintains the operations of assigned technology infrastructure systems to include installation and configuration of hardware/software and support to departments in problem solving with their respective technology requirements. Consults with hardware/software vendors to solve operational/processing problems. Performs research and development of new systems and hardware to implement in various departments and makes recommendations for best solution. May provide input for annual departmental budget request. Other Important Duties* Observes all safety rules and procedures; and Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
: Up-to-date, thorough knowledge of:
Install, configure, and support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure system availability and reliability. Upgrade and configure network routers, switches, and related hardware/software. Collaborate with IT staff on network design and capacity planning. Provide Level 2 and 3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues. Document network problems and resolutions for future reference. Stay up-to-date with new technologies and best practices in network administration. Layer 2/3 network switching and routing protocols Strong knowledge of networking protocols Experience with Extreme, HP, Cisco, or other enterprise networking equipment. Familiarity with network monitoring tools Knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and security protocols. Cybersecurity concepts Telecom/voicemail troubleshooting. Ability to understand and interpret needs of City departments and translate into applications requirements. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, vendors, and the public. Analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective, and reasonable course of action. Skilled at effective oral and written communications. Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripherals. Knowledge of technical support and computer training methods and techniques. Adherence to City policies and procedures. Knowledge and effective project management guidelines and principles. Skilled at resolving customer complaints and concerns. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to comprehend complex policies, procedures, regulations, organizational structures, etc. in a short time frame. Ability to carry, climb, and/or lift a ladder weighing 50 pounds. Ability to carry and/or lift equipment weighing 50 pounds.
