The Transmission System Planning Project Manager will support a broad range of studies and consulting services to assist power delivery utilities in making informed decisions backed by engineering and business analysis. Responsibilities include performing transmission planning and operational studies such as power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short-circuit, electromagnetic, reliability, and economic dispatch, especially related to congestion management scenarios. The role requires collaboration with various industry entities including investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, cooperatives, and independent transmission providers. The project manager will also engage in sales and marketing activities, develop proposals, establish study objectives, and oversee teams of engineers and consultants to meet project goals and deliver actionable results. Responsibilities
Manage all project aspects from business development, scope and fee negotiation, staffing, to execution, quality, and financial performance. Lead client relationships, proposal development, and contract negotiations. Oversee project execution, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget adherence, and quality control. Mentor and train junior staff, and support industry leadership in power generation planning. Develop transmission plans for major projects, interpret standards like NERC and FERC, and lead risk assessments. Utilize power system analysis software for planning tasks and resolve technical issues. Qualifications
Bachelor's in engineering (Electrical preferred); advanced degrees a plus. At least 5 years of related experience, including 3+ years managing engineering projects. Extensive knowledge of electric transmission systems and planning processes. Experience with industry-specific software (e.g., PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP). Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills. Knowledge of regional markets and standards (e.g., PJM, MISO, NERC, FERC).
