COUNTY OF WARREN
LAW ENFORCEMENT CERTIFIED DEPUTY SHERIFF - COURT SERVICES DEPUTY
FULL TIME OR PART TIME AVAILABLE
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs responsible protective service and human support work providing courtroom security and processing civil papers; does related work as required. The work may be performed under emergency conditions and involve considerable personal hazard. Work is performed under regular supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Ensuring courtroom security; supervising and transporting prisoners; serving civil process legal papers; preparing and maintaining files and records.
Provide safety and security within courtrooms and judicial facilities, screen all persons entering the courthouse through security checkpoints, supervise and transport inmates between jail and court, serve legal civil process documents throughout the County, prepare detailed documentation and maintain accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of courtroom procedures, civil law, and county geography Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills Proficiency with firearms, defensive tactics, and emergency response Ability to manage stressful situations and maintain professional decorum Experience interacting with the public, inmates, and court officials
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduating from high school is required Possess Full DCJS Law Enforcement Certification Possess a valid Virginia driver's license Candidate must be professional, dependable, and capable of working in a high-visibility environment Must meet and maintain minimum training and experience requirements for the position as established by the department and the Commonwealth of Virginia
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

The base pay for Deputy I is $51,131.16 annually, with the potential for a higher starting salary depending on qualifications and relevant experience. This position offers an excellent benefits package and a hiring bonus of 60 hours of annual leave. Court Services maintains a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, day shift and offers most weekends and County holidays off.
