The City of Norfolk's Parking Division is an enterprise fund under the Department of General Services. The Parking Division operates over 19,000 public parking spaces located in 14 garages, 10 lots, and more than 500 street spaces. The Department of General Services, Parking Division, is seeking a Meter Monitor. This role enforces city parking and vehicle registration regulations, issues citations, facilitates vehicle towing, and testifies in court regarding traffic violations. Enforces City Code by patrolling streets and parking areas, checking for expired meters and illegally parked vehicles, issuing citations, and providing information to the public. Facilitates vehicle towing by verifying outstanding tickets and remaining with the vehicle until it is towed. Provides court testimony regarding traffic violations. Works outside in variable weather conditions. Performs work during special assignments, including emergencies such as inclement weather and events. Communicates effectively with the public, possessing good verbal communication skills. Work requires knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalent, including understanding basic operational, technical, or office processes. Required: Six months of experience. Attention to detail, including interpreting signage and compiling data for citations, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred: Six months of experience in writing citations, security background, enforcement roles, or law enforcement. Valid Driver's License; DMV transcript within 30 days if hired. Work Location: MacArthur Garage, 500 E. City Hall Ave., Norfolk, VA 23510 Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM, 40 hours/week, occasional overtime.
