Job Title: Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) - Literacy Instructional Coach
Grades PK-6
POSITION SUMMARY
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) - Literacy Instructional Coach for grades PK-6 will provide differentiated support and professional development to staff regarding instructional practices that will positively impact student achievement. The role of the coach is to build instructional capacity in the following areas: effective instructional practices, knowledge of the Spanish Language Arts standards, curriculum, assessments, and expertise in analyzing data driven instruction and decision making. The Literacy Instructional Coach provides support for staff and school leaders in the areas of biliteracy, curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The Literacy Instructional Coach will need to have a strong command of literacy and language, be highly collaborative, reflective, flexible, have strong communication skills, think deeply and critically, practice new ideas, provide productive feedback, and assist with implementation of initiatives and systems development. The Literacy Instructional Coach TOSA reports to the Literacy Coordinator or the designee. The TOSA does not supervise any employees.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Coaches
staff to apply most effective instructional practices using tools, strategies, and attitudes to increase student learning; Supports
the implementation of biliteracy curriculum for grades PK-6; provides professional learning to best meet the needs of teachers and instructional leaders; Engages
in professional teaching and learning that empowers and respects the voices of all colleagues; Strengthens and grows
district-wide knowledge of Structured Literacy and the Science of Reading for multilingual learners. Supports
the alignment of PK-6 biliteracy practices and interventions to ensure students are growing and developing grade level biliteracy skills. Responds
to the instructional needs of the classroom teachers and students as needed; Develops and delivers
professional development to staff; Disaggregates
and analyzes academic achievement data to target instruction, enhance student learning, and inform teacher practice; Assists
teachers in utilizing a variety of ongoing, instructionally based assessment approaches to inform and differentiate instruction; Collaborates
with other content TOSAs, District Office staff, administrators, school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and district systems alignment; Be
an innovative educator by using integrated digital tools and best practices aligned to curriculum and instruction, and guiding staff and students in the creative use of technology.
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) - Literacy Instructional Coach for grades PK-6 should also model quality instruction, the following responsibilities also apply to this position:

and request to attend professional workshop activities intended to increase instructional effectiveness Participate
in District sponsored in-service offerings appropriate to assignment Perform
other related duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or superintendent Perform
duties in accordance with District policy and terms set forth in the negotiated agreement Assist
in the enforcement of school and District rules and policies Assumes
a share of responsibility for non-classroom student activities with the assigned workday Maintain
consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position Perform
other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
BA/BS or higher degree (required) with a major in one or more of the following areas: Curriculum, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, ELA, Reading or similar area. Masters preferred. Valid Oregon Teaching License from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon.
Experience and Knowledge Preferred: Bilingual Educator Endorsement(s) in Reading, ESOL, or Bilingual Education from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon. Instructional Practices for Multilingual Learners Experience in the following areas: Structured Literacy, The Science of Reading, Explicit and Systematic Instruction, Amplify, Kendore, RTI or MTSS, GLAD, Constructing Meaning, Instructional Coaching, Orton Gillingham, Dibels 8, Data Teams, LETRS, dual language education. Oregon's Transformative SEL Framework and Standards PAX Program Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
