Position Overview:
The Sr. Process Optimization Engineer will support the day-to-day production activities to ensure the safety, quality, and efficiency of the manufacturing process. Identify and execute process improvement initiatives. Track and optimize site asset utilization, production performance, and variable manufacturing costs. Perform engineering analysis to reduce waste and down time. Support plant HSE initiatives and incorporate process safety practices.
What you will be doing:
  • Act as a steward for maintaining excellent HSSE performance in the plant - fulfill the HSSE Leadership Expectations.
  • Support all Operations and Logistics process optimization efforts at Houston site.
  • Apply engineering principles to design, modify, or develop facilities, testing, machines, equipment or processes used in processing Sulfuric Acid and/or Treatment Services in regeneration sulfuric acid units and/or Logistics activities to meet customer requirements.
  • Utilize AVEVA PI software to provide advanced troubleshooting for plant problems and review unit performance. This includes ProcessBook, Vision, and System Explorer.
  • Audit OEE for the units; be able to run reports and utilize information within to identify target equipment for improvements.
  • Provide justification for projects and improvements through data analysis and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Act as a steward for SUMO for the Houston site. (SUMO = Sulfuric Unit Management and Optimization)
  • Utilize technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations to create long-term improvements in the plant.
  • Complete small capital project scope development and execution of small projects (typically < $250k).
  • Develop plant skills and knowledge of the Regen sulfuric acid process to provide advanced technical support to Operations, Maintenance, and Project support functions.
  • Participate in Unit HAZOPS and follow-up action items as required to mitigate risks in the unit from the PHA.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support to operations personnel in each unit and work closely with the Unit Teams and engineers to effectively troubleshoot plant-wide issues.
  • Support Environmental group as needed for information and calculations related to incidents, permits, and testing.
  • Support Unit operations during Unit Turnarounds or Maintenance outages including vessel inspections, work planning and any report writing requirements for effective future equipment improvements.
  • Provide support during absence of Process Optimization Manager as needed.
  • Support Ecovyst Equipment Strategies, Best Practices, SUMO compliance, Cost per Ton, Capital Planning, Equipment Repair and ESG efforts.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 plus years in chemical process industry with background emphasis in production processes, maintenance, and shipping activities.
  • High proficiency in SAP and other Enterprise Resource Planning software.
  • Proficient with the Aspen, Power BI, and PI suite of software tools for modeling and optimizing operations.
  • Comfortable with standard office computer packages, i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word, MS Project, etc.
  • Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
  • Applies principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establishes facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Leverage technical data to create various communications (email, presentation, executive summary, etc.) to support technical determinations used in critical decision making. Includes presenting proposals to leadership and upper management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker's Identification Card.
