This position serves as the recognized resource for all federal grants received from the Department of Justice (DOJ) by the Financial Services Section. As the DOJ grant expert, this position is responsible for all financial management issues with DOJ grants, including recommending best practices. Responsibilities include evaluating and providing expert opinions on grant budgets, maintaining the chart of accounts to ensure proper tracking of awards, reviewing expenditures, completing financial status reports, ensuring compliance with grant award financial conditions, and drawing down federal funds. Additionally, this role involves budget development, monitoring, financial analysis, forecasting expenditures and revenues, maintaining the accounting structure, reviewing grant expenditures, preparing grant reports, managing grant revenue requests, accounts receivable billings, and representing the division or department at meetings and training programs. The position also evaluates funding sources within assigned appropriations and designs cost allocation plans to appropriately utilize restricted funding. Tasks include interpreting federal and state regulations, creating reports, and developing new processes and procedures. Monitoring grantee/sub-recipient single audits is also part of this role.

The most visible personnel are the uniform troopers, responsible for traffic enforcement, crime prevention, investigation, and community engagement.
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with at least 12 semester (18 term) credits in accounting, finance, or economics.
Experience
At least three years of professional experience in reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, or evaluating budgets, mortgages, loans, or other financial data, comparable to a Financial Analyst, including one year at the Financial Analyst P11 level. College credits may be substituted proportionally for experience (one year of college equals one quarter of experience), up to half of the required experience.
This position requires passing pre-employment screening, including a drug test, criminal background check, and fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.
